Plantar Fasciitis is a common foot ailment that causes pain in the heel. Treatment ranges from specific stretches, custom-molded shoe inserts (orthotics), steroid treatments, to surgery.

A bunion is a foot deformity that can cause pain in the great toe joint. Bunions can be genetic (structural) or can develop from improper foot function (functional) and can often be exacerbated by improper shoe gear. Often, appropriate treatment consists of very conservative modalities (change in shoe gear, prescription orthotics, etc.) or can involve reconstructive surgery.

The key is early intervention sought from a highly specialized physician who specializes in foot and ankle medicine. Our member doctors are specialists in dealing with bunions!

A hammertoe is a contracture of one or both of the joints in the lesser toes. Hammertoes can be painful and potentially lead to painful corns on the top of the toes, and sometimes between the toes.

The underlying cause of corns and callouses is pressure on bony prominences or areas of the foot that receive excessive amounts of pressure or weight-bearing forces. While painful for most patients, corns, and callouses can be very serious for diabetic patients. There are many ways to treat corns and callouses, from routine trimming to special shoes or inserts to surgical correction of the underlying bone.

Ingrown toenails form when the nail grows into the skin of the toe. Often, ingrown toenails lead to painful infections and need to be removed by a foot doctor. If an ingrown toenail develops, see a podiatrist immediately before it becomes infected.

Foot care is crucial for people suffering from diabetes. Risk of limb amputation increases drastically if a diabetic is not seen by a foot & ankle specialists on a regular basis. Common foot problems for diabetics include wounds and neuropathy.

In addition, parents may observe that their children are often falling or tripping and not able to keep up with normal activities. This may be due to a condition called in-toeing or out-toeing.
